Original Job Description

Description

Are you interested in shaping the future of entertainment? Do you want to define the next generation of how and what Amazon customers are watching? Prime Video is changing the way people watch movies and TV. From one service, we’re delivering versatile ways to watch hundreds of thousands of movies, TV series, and live events on the web, mobile, and TV. Our service is available in more than 200 territories globally, and we’re just getting started.

Working closely with business and technology partners, we use research, design, and prototyping to guide early product development, bring clarity to engineering goals, and develop a customer-centric point of view. This is where you come in.

As a Principal Design Technologist, you’ll be a strategic leader within our PVXD organization, specifically supporting the Enterprise (PRIZE) team. Your role will be all about defining the vision, proving, advancing, and evolving forward-looking UX concepts for enterprise tools through prototyping and hands-on product work. You’ll lead other design technologists, set the technical direction for bringing ambitious design ideas to life, and play a critical role in three key areas: training and up-skilling the PVXD org in AI tooling, providing design system support for our new enterprise-focused design system, and building high-fidelity prototypes for 0-1 initiatives that help secure buy-in from cross-functional partners for new ideas in the enterprise portfolio space.

Key job responsibilities

Define and drive the technical vision for design prototyping across Prime Video’s enterprise product portfolio

Train and upskill designers, PMs, and cross-functional partners across PVXD (and specifically in the PRIZE product space) in AI tooling and prototyping capabilities, establishing the org as leaders in AI-first design

Build bespoke, AI-enabled solutions that solve pervasive everyday problems across the organization, streamlining undifferentiated work and enabling teams to focus on high-value strategic initiatives

Provide dedicated design technology support for the creation and maintenance of Prime Video’s new enterprise-focused design system, working closely with design system leads to build, document, and evolve component libraries

Build high-fidelity, functional prototypes of 0-1 initiatives for enterprise experiences that can be tested with real customers (3P/1P partners, operators, content creators) to validate concepts and secure buy-in from cross-functional partners and leadership

Lead collaboration with design leadership, engineering leadership, and senior stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle for enterprise tools serving both internal teams and external partners

Mentor and guide design technologists, designers, researchers, PMs, and engineers to drive concepts from idea to implementation, with a focus on enterprise workflow optimization

Establish best practices and technical standards for design prototyping across web-based enterprise platforms and operator tools

Advance design thinking by leveraging deep platform expertise and emerging technologies, particularly GenAI/ML applications for automating undifferentiated manual tasks in enterprise workflows

Champion innovation in a fast-paced, iterative environment with ambiguous challenges and brand new customer experiences for content publishing, localization, and marketing automation

Influence product strategy through technical prototyping that demonstrates feasibility and customer value for enterprise users

A day in the life

As a Principal Design Technologist on the PVXD Enterprise team, you’ll have the opportunity to lead transformative work across the enterprise content lifecycle. You’ll define the technical approach for prototypes spanning Slate’s content delivery workflows, Marketing Automation’s AI-powered creative asset generation, Backlot Create’s production tools, and Workbench/Axis 2.0’s localization workflows. You’ll architect high-fidelity prototypes for web-based enterprise platforms using frontend technologies such as HTML/CSS/JS, React.js, Redux, and Motion.js.

You’ll spend time conducting hands-on training sessions and workshops to upskill PVXD designers and partners on AI prototyping tools, vibe coding techniques, and emerging GenAI capabilities. You’ll collaborate closely with the enterprise design system team to build and maintain component libraries, create documentation, and ensure system consistency across enterprise products. Most importantly, partner with UX Designers on the Enterprise team to build testable prototypes of 0-1 concepts that can be put in front of real customers—whether they’re studio partners uploading content to Slate, marketers using AI-generated assets, or localization teams managing subtitle workflows—to gather feedback and demonstrate value to engineering and product partners.

About the team

You’ll be joining the Enterprise Experience & Design Program Management team within PVXD. Our core differentiator is that we’re not just an enterprise UXD team, GenAI serves as the connective tissue that transforms both what Prime Video delivers and how we deliver it. We’re scrappy yet detail-oriented, knowing when to build quickly versus diving into the details to produce higher fidelity prototypes. We bring our own design vision and support our design and engineering partners to help them ship faster.

We partner closely with UX researchers and design technologists to create new experiences that our enterprise customers (3P/1P partners, operators, content creators, and internal teams) get to test and provide feedback on. Our prototypes are demoed to senior leadership to showcase what the future of Prime Video’s enterprise tools will look and feel like.
