You’ll be responsible for defining the product, model, and overall experiences from the ground up. You will architect intuitive interfaces, create robust design systems, and develop business strategies and communication frameworks to ensure high-quality app behavior and model responses tailored to the needs of small business owners.

The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced, self-starting, and innovative Staff AI Product Designer to join the Gemini App Team. As a key technical and design leader, you will work hand-in-hand with engineers, research scientists, and product managers to build transformative 0-to-1 solutions.

You will play a crucial role in shaping how small businesses communicate, operate, and scale using generative AI. You’ll nimbly move from focusing on the visual and interaction design of the UI to the underlying quality of the model’s responses, leveraging complex cross-functional partnerships to articulate and guide the overarching product strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive big product vision and build from the ground up: Lead the technical and design vision for Gemini’s small business experiences, designing and building foundational, 0-to-1 features and capabilities entirely from scratch
  • Define business and response strategy: Develop business strategies, communication frameworks, system instructions, and rubrics to improve model response quality and relevance
  • Architect intuitive AI experiences: Design user interfaces and consumer experiences across platforms with natural, efficient, and helpful multimodal interactions
  • Shape LLM behavior: Partner with product, engineering, and research teams to define quality standards and evaluation methods
  • Design with systems thinking: Understand how components impact the overall AI-powered experience
  • Craft visually compelling interfaces: Create high-fidelity designs and interaction systems that make complex AI outputs accessible
  • Bridge design and technology: Write system instructions and prototype model-driven experiences
  • Champion innovation and ethical design: Stay current with AI advancements while prioritizing user safety and responsible design

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years designing user interfaces and shaping content for complex software, including conversational AI / LLMs
  • Strong portfolio covering visual, motion, interaction design, and AI product strategy
  • Experience designing for small and medium businesses
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Strong systems thinking across technical and UX domains
  • Experience working in fast-moving, startup-like environments
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience training, tuning, or evaluating LLMs or generative AI systems
  • Experience building transformative AI-driven products
  • Ability to analyze model output and identify improvement patterns
  • Experience with prototyping tools like Figma, ProtoPie, or Framer
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Replit, etc.)

Compensation:
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $178,000 to $265,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits.
