Innovation Partner
PURPOSE:
The main purpose of this Innovation Partner Squad Lead / Product Owner is to create and own the innovation strategy for IT Foundations. They will drive business outcomes via rapid prototyping, aligning technology and business needs, and leading multi-year digital roadmaps to ensure successful implementation and adoption of digital solutions. The individual will act as the Product Owner for the larger Innovation Squad which will consist of four permanent squad members and a rotational of five IT Foundation Platform representatives. The Innovation Squad Lead will create a space that is protected from day-to-day operations to ensure time and focus on what’s next for Foundations and our stakeholders. This role will report to the IT Foundations Lead.
Within ITF the Innovation Squad Lead will develop and co-create Innovation concepts with the DT&IT Leadership Teams, Agentic Platforms and Business Platforms which are critical to enabling the ITF Vision: As accelerators of new technologies, we reimagine and scale an agentic, resilient IT where AI agents work alongside our people benefiting farmers, patients, and consumers.
The Innovation Squad will ignite transformation by discovering, experimenting with and delivering cutting-edge technology solutions that unlock new possibilities for every Bayer division – making innovation accessible, scalable, and deeply integrated into the way our organization creates value.
This role will be a hybrid role including 2-3 days per week in office. Preferred locations are Whippany, NJ, St. Louis, MO, or Leverkusen, Germany, but candidates at other major Bayer sites globally will be considered based upon needs of the business.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create and own the IT Foundations Innovation strategy to achieve business outcomes by aligning technology and business needs to create a cohesive strategy;
Develop and prioritize backlog of innovation opportunities – continuously ensuring the focus is on the future possibilities and not day to day operations;
Initiate the Innovation incubator and connect successful discovery into execution and implementation teams;
Drive rapid prototyping to quickly validate concepts, accelerate learning cycles, and translate ideas into tangible, testable solutions;
Build and maintain long-term/multi-year digital roadmaps focused on business outcomes, incorporating regional and global needs;
Lead strategic prioritization and funding allocations to platforms across roadmaps, considering business impact and total cost of ownership;
Manage interdependencies and risks across multi-year launch plans and milestone implementation approaches (including 90-day cycles) from a business perspective;
Transparently share with business team progress on business outcomes connected to technical key results and relevant key learning and potential trade-offs as part of 90-day cycles;
Drive strategic adoption and implementation of business-specific digital solutions in partnership with platforms and business team(s) (customer, product, technical, enabling teams);
Drives transformation towards a product-and platform-based IT and AI-driven enterprise applying DSO principles;Create culture where creativity and testing and learning is the norm.

WHO YOU ARE:
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
University degree (Bachelor or Master) in computer science, science, business administration or an equivalent qualification with relevant work experience;
Prior experience in startup environment;
Relevant experience in rapid-prototyping, vibe-coding, AI solutions;
Customer focus, business acumen and domain expertise in the resp. division(s);
Cross-cultural sensitivity;
Ideally, several years of customer-facing work in IT and/or business functions;
Experience working in an agile environment;
Proven experience in driving digital strategy and innovation mindset;
Strong understanding of business and IT needs, with the ability to align technology and business objectives;
Self-motivated and goal-oriented person with strong mindset to take initiative;
Communication, organization and influencing skills, while demonstrating business insight with a strategic and innovative mindset;
Fluent in English, both written and spoken;
Entrepreneurial drive;
Strong financial acumen with ability to assess ROI and TCO to inform options;
Problem-solving, organizational and analytical skills, Strong ability to think strategically;
Proven track record of successfully in coaching and mentoring highly educated, skilled team members in a global environment.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $177,440 to $266,160. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.
